Nutrition, measured — for the way people actually cook
YummyMetrics is a free nutrition reference and toolkit for ingredients. We turn trusted public data into fast, clear pages and tools that help you understand what's in your food.
Why we built it
Looking up “calories in a banana” is easy. Working out the nutrition of the soup you made last night, comparing three kinds of beans, or finding the most protein-dense foods for your budget is not. Most nutrition sites stop at a single number, bury it under pop-ups, or ask you to create an account first.
We wanted something different: a site that starts with tools, goes deep on every ingredient, works in your language, and loads instantly on any phone.
What you'll find here
- Ingredient pages — calories, protein, carbohydrates, fat, fiber, sugars, sodium, vitamins and minerals, shown per 100 g, per typical portion and per 100 kcal.
- An ingredient browser — search, filter by food group and sort by any nutrient.
- A recipe nutrition calculator — paste a recipe as plain text and get per-serving totals.
- Comparisons and meal building — put foods side by side, or add up a full day.
- Multilingual versions — with local food names and familiar units, not machine-translated labels.
Some of these tools are still being built. We release them as soon as they meet our standard for accuracy and speed.
Where our data comes from
Our nutrient values are based on USDA FoodData Central, the public nutrient database maintained by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Agricultural Research Service. We use its Foundation Foods and SR Legacy datasets, then curate them — merging near-duplicates, organising foods into clear groups and keeping the raw and cooked forms people actually use.
The USDA does not endorse YummyMetrics. Full details are on our Data & Methodology page.
Our principles
- Accuracy first. We show where every number comes from and correct errors quickly when they're reported.
- Free and open. No sign-up, no paywall. The site is supported by advertising.
- Fast and light. Static pages that load in a blink, even on slow connections.
- Information, not prescriptions. We provide general nutrition data, not medical or dietary advice. See our Health Disclaimer.
